The knowledge base is an information system that stores available data, retrieves and presents data, generates new combined data, imports data from other systems, supplies information for decision support systems, and provides better information to the public domain.The Nepal – WRKB is based on ArcGIS and Lizard (web portal).

Principal components of the Nepal-WRKB project are:

• Database system, 
• Knowledge base system, and
• Web-portal

Nepal – WRKB has four main outputs. Its three components namely data base, knowledge base, and web-portal are the three outputs, while the water resources atlas constitutes the fourth outputs.
